Sheetz Inc. is meeting the future of convenience retailing in Pittsburgh. The convenience store operator announced on Sept. 23 that it is establishing a technology and innovation hub in the city which will focus on developing, testing and implementing what Sheetz calls “transformative services and products,” based on KDKA.com.
“Our mission at Sheetz is to produce a business that puts the Sheetz Near Me while we know it today, from business,” Emily Sheetz, Sheetz’s assistant vice president of strategy, said in a press release.
“This hub is surely an investment in the future and can give Sheetz a distinctive chance to access developers and other talent in Pittsburgh,” she added.
Based on the report, Sheetz selected Pittsburgh because of its growing reputation as being a city for start-ups and tech innovation. The retailer added it hopes to revolutionize exactly what the “convenience” part of their future c-stores will appear like.
Altoona-based Sheetz operates greater than 580 store locations throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and North Carolina.
In an effort to bring customers the latest products and services, Sheetz will open its first-ever technology and innovation hub at Bakery Square in Pittsburg on Oct. 1, in accordance with the city’s CBS station.
The hub will give attention to developing, testing and implementing offerings that may one day show up on Sheetz store shelves. Amongst the new services and products recently launched by Sheetz are a comprehensive line of cannabidiol (CBD) products, Bitcoin kiosks at a number of stores and expanded wine and beer collections, including a unique coffee-flavored brew.

Mary Beth Green, Sheetz’s innovation officer, said the Altoona-based company chose Pittsburgh due to the city’s reputation as a great spot for start-ups and technological know-how.
